Ma

My rattling mind ranted about a thousand and one things during sleep . Well , you can't actually call dozing off for 4 hours , as an act of sleeping . But I guess that's how life is , for a guy working in the ever booming IT sector of India . The alarm's cling brought about a moment of silence for my chattering mind . Immediately , my hands fell for the phone on the tabletop . There were the usual text messages and overnight calls from my colleagues abroad .
Some messages from the broker who guaranteed a good apartment in Mumbai and finally one really long message from mom .

It read - ' .. beta , I can understand that the reason  you haven't  called me for the past two weeks is due to your work load . It must be really tough for my young boy to handle the pressures of city life . Food in bombay is not as healthy as our good old punjabi meals . So stick to the Vada pav's for snacks and don't buy any Subzi from the restaurants there . Stick to dal chawal , till you come home next month . I've made plans to cook a feast for you once you get here . All your favorite subzis and deserts lined up to greet tho back home !!! . We also need to meet your old dadima , she's not been doing well lately .
Before you scroll past my message , I need you to read the following carefully and do so , as I tell you to - take a deep breath . Turn off your laptop , and keep it locked away in the cupboard . Now make yourself a good cup of chai . Take a stroll in that city park , you'd told me about . Come back , and tell your bods that you're on a leave today . Whatever job that is pending , can remain put off , till tomorrow . Listen to good music , and take restful sleep .
Love ,
Ma .

My eyes welled up , I could feel the urge to get back home and kiss my ma . For the first time , I paused to listen to the buzzle of the city , the noise of the street hawkers and the music that played from beneath the building . I slipped into my pajamas and sipped onto hot chai . After a cooling bath , I walked through the streets of Mumbai and brought my mother a pair of gold earrings from the jewelry shop down street . Then I sat stretched on the lawns of city park . I said thank you . Thank you to mother . Mother who manifests as nature and as ma , for fondling her children in those arms ever wide .
